Catching-up on a bunch of things to close out a wild week…
Most interesting name that I’ve heard so far at Florida A&M is former Arkansas / St. John’s / Missouri / UAB head coach Mike Anderson. The veteran coach is 437-256 (.631) in 21 seasons as a D1 head coach. He was named as the NABC National Coach of the Year following Mizzou’s Elite 8 run in 2009, and captured Big East COY honors in 2021. Working on more names here.
I have heard that Dionte Ferguson and Reese McGinsie will join Paul Corsaro’s new staff at IUPUI (soon to be IU Indianapolis) in some capacity. Ferguson had been an assistant on Corsaro’s staff at UIndy since 2022, and McGinsie has been on the UIndy staff as a GA. Announcements are expected shortly.
I have now heard multiple times that former Central Arkansas head coach Anthony Boone has been on campus at D3 Hendrix College (AR). Boone, an Arkansas native, had been the head coach at UCA since 2019, before a change was made this spring.
Longwood assistant Quinn McDowell is on the move, and will become the new head basketball coach at The Baylor School in Chattanooga. McDowell had been at Longwood since 2022, and also served as an assistant at Lehigh, Taylor, and Virginia Wesleyan.
Getting bits and pieces on a couple of small college searches:
D2 Northwood (MI): Heard it’s down to four finalists (all Michigan guys?). From what I gather, the final group includes a D1 assistant, D2 assistant, a JUCO assistant, a local HS head coach. More on this one as I hear it.
D3 Keene State (NH): Heard they are wrapping up on-campus interviews this week. Sounds like a D3 head coach is involved (not the one everyone thinks), a prep school head coach, one of the current assistants, and a 4th unnamed coach to be named later. Sounds like an announcement here may come next week.
Gathering some D1 staff updates that are floating out there. Wanted them to live in one place:
DePaul: Former Butler head coach LaVall Jordan will join Chris Holtmann’s new staff at DePaul as the General Manager / Assistant Coach. Jordan was the head coach at Butler from 2017-22, and spent the 2016-17 season as the head coach at Milwaukee. He also worked as an assistant at Michigan and Iowa.
George Washington: Has elevated Director of Recruiting Matt Colpoys to assistant coach replacing Zak Boisvert (departed for St. Louis). Colpoys has been at GW since 2022, and was also a GA at Iowa State and an assistant at Johns Hopkins.
Grand Canyon: Bryce Drew is reportedly adding Arizona State associate head coach Jermaine Kimbrough. Kimbrough has also been an assistant at Loyola Chicago, Wyoming, Nevada, and Cleveland State.
Michigan: St. Mary’s associate head coach Justin Joyner is headed to Michigan to join Dusty May’s staff. Joyner has been with Randy Bennett at SMC for the past seven seasons.
Pepperdine: New head coach Ed Schilling is adding Tyus Edney to his staff. Edney, a former UCLA standout, had a long professional career following his graduation in 1995. He had most recently worked for Steve Lavin at San Diego.
