A few things that I’ve heard…

  • Last week, I mentioned that Austin Peay assistant Sergio Rouco was headed to Samford (Daily Dirt 4/9). It now sounds like another APSU assistant could be on the move – I’ve heard Darryl Dora’s named mentioned multiple times now at Georgia Southern. He and new head coach Brian Burg were together at Texas Tech for three seasons. More on this one as I hear it.
  • The search at D2 Arkansas Tech is progressing. A name that I keep hearing here is Matt Zimmerman. He worked for Mike Anderson at Arkansas, UAB, and Missouri. Working on more names for this one.
  • New Lander University (SC) head coach Omar Wattad will add Tyus Gaines to his staff as an assistant coach. Gaines is a South Carolina native who played at both Spartanburg Methodist and Southern Wesleyan. An official announcement is expected shortly.

  • Long-time Southern Indiana assistant Brent Owen will not be retained by new head coach Stan Gouard. Owen had spent 11 of the last 13 years at USI as a player, GA, and assistant. No word yet on who Gouard will hire to replace him.
  • D3 Amherst College opened yesterday when David Hixon officially retired. A lot of guys assume that Aaron Toomey, who served as the interim last year, would get the bump, but that may not be the case. I talked to a few people around this one yesterday who said that a search will take place (but added that Toomey will be involved). Should be some really good names chasing this one.
