Daily Dirt – 4/16/21

A few things to wind down the week…

I have heard that Collegiate Sports Associates has the UNC Greensboro search. This group, led by Todd Turner, has former South Carolina / Wake Forest head coach Dave Odom, and former Virginia AD Craig Littlepage on staff as advisors / consultants. So far this off-season, CSA has helped with searches at Marquette (Shaka Smart), College of Charleston (Pat Kelsey), Austin Peay (Nate James), and Western Carolina (Justin Gray). VERY early indications are that UNCG prefers a candidate who has been a head coach. More on this one as it develops.

I have heard that first round interviews at Central Connecticut will wrap up this week with a group of 4-6 coaches. This one will be entering it’s sixth week – one of the longest searches to date this off-season. Will have a better idea of who is headed to the next round shortly.

I can confirm that Julius Hodge has interviewed for a spot on Mike Boynton’s staff at Oklahoma State. Hodge, a former standout at NC State (20th pick in 2005 NBA draft), had most recently been an assistant at San Jose State. He has also worked at Buffalo and Santa Clara. Boynton is looking to replace assistant coach Cannen Cunningham, who stepped away from the program last week.

Kevin Sutton is out as an assistant at URI. The veteran assistant had been on the Rams staff for the past three seasons, and has also had stops at Pitt, Georgetown, George Washington, James Madison and Old Dominion. The most interesting name that I’ve heard as a possible replacement here is former Boston College head coach Jim Christian (he played for Tom Penders at URI in the late 1980’s).

Drew Valentine’s staff at Loyola Chicago is starting to take shape. It sounds like South Alabama associate head coach Amorrow Morgan is in the mix here, and that one of the two administrative staffers will get the bump. More on this one as I hear it.

An early name making the rounds at D2 Chowan is Rob Burke. The former UNCW interim head coach played at Chowan for his father Bob, who was the long-time head coach there (and has the court named after him). Rob spent last season at Colorado College, and has also worked at Georgia Southern, The Citadel, and Campbell.
