Trying to catch-up after a busy weekend. Here are a bunch of things that I’ve heard….
• I have heard that North Carolina State operations staffer Levi Watkins is involved with an assistant spot on Jim Baron’s new staff at Canisius. Watkins has workied in various ops roles on the Wolfpack staff over the past seven years. He is a 2005 graduate of NC State and appeared in 97 games over his career.
• From a great source….St. Cloud State assistant Dan DeWitt is in the mix for the Mayville State job. This past season was his first at SCSU – he was a GA for Tubby Smith at Minnesota before that. DeWitt played for the legendary Don Meyer at Northern State.
• Indiana Tech women’s coach Rodney Hamilton is involved with an assistant position on Travis Williams’ staff at Tennessee State. Before heading to the women’s side three seasons ago, Hamilton was a men’s assistant at Southeast Missouri State. He and Williams were teammates at Georgia State in the mid-1990’s. Another former Georgia State guy rumored to be involved at Tennessee State is Brandon Johnson. Johnson spent six seasons on Jeff Lebo’s staff at Auburn and has also been an assistant at Jacksonville State, Texas San Antonio, and Clayton State.
• The search at Mars Hill is winding down. According to multiple sources, it sounds like the front-runner here is former Gardner-Webb head coach Rick Scruggs. In his 24 years as a head coach, Scruggs has compiled a 377-331 record. An announcement at Mars Hill is expected sometime this week.
• I have heard that former Fairmont state interim head coach Brett Vincent is involved with the head coaching position at Chowan. Vincent has previous head coaching experience – he went 91-49 in five seasons at Alderson-Broaddus (1996-2001). It sounds like the announcement here could come as early as Wednesday.
• It sounds like St. Andrews (NC) head coach Richie Schueler was involved in both Mars Hill and Chowan (and may have turned down the Chowan gig). I’ve been told by multiple sources to keep an eye on the situation at St. Andrews ….
• According to a very reliable source, the candidates at Swarthmore are: Pat Doherty assistant coach Lafayette, Arlen Galloway assistant coach Cornell, Kevin Bryne assistant coach MIT, Ryan Kadlubowski head coach Mt. St. Mary’s (NY), and one other DI assistant.
