Catching up on a bunch of things…

  • It sounds like South Alabama will promote DBO Tyler Parker to assistant coach replacing Nima Omidvar (George Washington). Parker came to South Alabama with head coach Richie Riley from Nicholls last spring. I have also heard that current Special Assistant to the Head Coach Mikel Kosich will be elevated to the DBO spot. He also joined the USA staff last spring, and has been an assistant at DIII St. Mary’s College of Maryland before that.

  • I have heard that former Northern Kentucky assistant Chris Shumate is involved with a spot at Arkansas. He had been with John Brannen at NKU for the past three seasons, and may still wind up with him in Cincinnati.

  • Roger Idstrom will be retained by new Lipscomb head coach Lennie Acuff. He has been the associate head coach at Lipscomb for the past eleven seasons, and has also worked at Stetson and Belmont.

  • Word on the street is that Northern Illinois associate head coach Jon Borovich will replace Billy Donlon (UMKC) and Northwestern. Borovich has been at NIU since 2011.

  • I have heard that former William and Mary staffer Luke Ford is in the mix to replace Cody Anderson on the staff at Longwood. The former manager at Virginia had been at W&M since 2014. Anderson departed for a HS job earlier this month.

  • Odd situation at NAIA Mount Marty College. Cody Schilling resigned back on March 18th after two seasons. AD Chris Kassin then introduced himself as the next head coach. Now, word comes that former Buena Vista head coach Todd Lornesen will take over for Kassin (who will remain as the AD). Lorensen had taken over at DIII BVU last April, and was the head coach at Southwestern CC (IA) before that.

  • With Hobart’s Tim Sweeney headed to Connecticut College, multiple sources have told me that current Hobart assistant Stefan Thompson is the leader to replace him as the head coach. Thompson is a 2013 Hobart alum who was a three-time All-Liberty League selection and 2012-13 Liberty League Player of the Year. He also spent three seasons as an assistant at Wilkes University. More on this search as it progresses.

  • I can confirm that DII Gannon University offered their job to a big-time JUCO head coach who did not accept. A C-USA assistant was next – not sure where that stands right now.
