Daily Dirt – 4/4/19

A few things as Minneapolis prepares for SausageFest 2019 to get under way today…

  • A bunch of things out of the MEAC:
    • Interviews for the opening at Howard will take place over the next few days at the Final Four. Will have some names here shortly.
    • The hot name at Morgan State is Maryland assistant Kevin Broadus. He has been on Mark Turgeon’s staff for the past two seasons, and was long-time assistant at Georgetown before that.He also spent 2007-09 as the head coach at Binghamton.
    • The job at UMES is open, and current interim head coach Clifford Reed is in the mix. Other names I’ve heard here are former FIU head coach Anthony Evans, North Texas assistant Jareem Dowling (an alum), Milwaukee assistant Paris Parham (a former assistant at UMES), and G-League assistant Jason Crafton.

  • The two early names at Belmont are current associate head coach Bryan Ayers, and Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. Ayers has been at Belmont for the past 21 seasons. Alexander is a Belmont alum (Hall of Famer) and former assistant there. His squad faces Texas tonight for the NIT Championship.
  • Some names that I keep hearing at Virginia Tech are Marquette’s Steve Wojo (not spelling the rest), Seton Hall’s Kevin Willard, Cincinnati’s Mick Cronin, and Wofford’s Mike Young. Really early here, but it is starting to move…
  • Yesterday, I mentioned the opening at DII Colorado State Pueblo. I have now also heard that at least two head coaches have had Zoom interviews there, including Wayland Baptist head coach Ty Harrelson. I’ll have the complete list shortly.
  • The search at DII William Jewel College is moving along. I have heard that the four finalists will be on campus next week. It sounds like the group includes a current assistant coach, a JUCO coach from Texas, and to Kansas City area coaches.
  • My list at Tennessee Tech from last night in case you missed it is HERE.
