Daily Dirt – 4/8/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I will be traveling most of the day today. This will be the only update until possibly later tonight on the website, but I will do my best to get some stuff up on Twitter (until the DirtQueen shuts that down). Here’s my early morning dirt…

With Chartlon Young headed to Missouri, I have heard the hot name to replace him at Florida State is Boise State assistant R-Jay Barsh. Before joining the BSU staff three seasons ago, Barsh was the head coach at NAIA Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL. More on this one as I hear it.

Zoom interviews are in full swing at Elon. Will have names shortly.

Yesterday, I mentioned that North Dakota State’s Kyan Brown had resigned and was on the move. I can now confirm that he’s headed to Omaha, most likely as the associate head coach. Other names that I’ve heard in the mix for spots on Chris Crutchfield’s new staff are former UTRGV assistant (and Oregon staffer) Kenya Crandell, and Salt Lake CC associate head coach CJ Killin.

I went with names at VMI yesterday, and have now been told that James Madison assistant Andrew Wilson most definitely needs to be added to the list. Last year was his first at JMU, after spending seven seasons as an assistant at Georgia Southern. He has also worked for Bobby Cremins at the College of Charleston.

Interviews are underway at D3 DePauw University (IN). The most interesting name that I’ve heard here is Clemson assistant Dick Bender. The coaching veteran began his career in 1987 as an assistant at DePauw (Clemson head coach Brad Brownell played for him there). Another name that I’ve heard is a current D3 head coach who had previously served as an assistant at DePauw. Sounds like this one could be wrapped up as early as next week.
