Daily Dirt – 5/7/20

It’s like groundhog day here at the HD HQ. Here are a few things that I’ve heard…

  • Alabama State is still in the hunt for a new head coach. One name that I’ve now heard a few times that is Cal State Northridge assistant Mo Williams. The 13-year NBA vet, who played collegiately at Alabama, has been at CSUN since 2018. More on this one as I hear it.
  • I have heard that Robert Byrd will be named as the new head basketball coach at NJCAA Arkansas – Cossatot. Byrd was most recently an assistant at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, and also spent six seasons as the head coach at Lone Star College – Cy Fair.
  • TJ Cox has joined the basketball staff at Tallahassee CC as an assistant. He had spent the past three seasons as an assistant at John A. Logan College (IL).
  • Phone interviews began this week at NJCAA McCook College, as they look to replace Kyle Drennan who became the DBO at Illinois Chicago last month. Not sure how many got phones, but know of at least one Minnesota HS coach, and a former JUCO head coach. Working on the complete list now.
  • It sounds like Derek Alleman will become an assistant at D3 East Texas Baptist. He had previously worked as an assistant for new ETBU head coach Chris Lovell at Bossier Parrish CC (LA), and spent last year working at the HS level.
  • HoopDirt.com’s up-to-date list of coaching changes at ALL levels can be found HERE.
