Daily Dirt – 5/26/17

Catching up on some things as we cruise into Memorial Day weekend…

  • I have heard that John Groce will name Eastern Florida State College assistant coach Cole Pittis as the Director of Basketball Operations at Akron. Before joining the EFSC staff, Pittis worked as the Assistant to the Head Coach under Keith Dambrot at Akron. He has also served as an assistant coach and DBO at Bradley. An official announcement is expected shortly.

  • Indiana University (PA) assistant Travon Woodall will become the Director of Basketball Operations at Robert Morris. This was first reported by cityofbasketballlove.com. Woodall, a former standout at Pitt, joined the IUP staff prior to last season after wrapping up his playing career overseas. He replaces Tim Lawrence who resigned earlier this spring to enter the private sector.

  • A couple of college guys headed to the HS level…
    • Hartford Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Player Development will become the head coach at Girard College HS (PA). He’s a Philadelphia native who had been at Hartford since 2015.
    • Former Fayetteville State head coach Alphonza Kee has become the head coach at Cape Fear HS (NC). He spent last season as an assistant at Florida A&M after wrapping up a seven year stint at Fayetteville State.
    • We posted earlier today that Montana State assistant Brandon Lincoln has become the head coach at Providence HS (CA).

  • I can confirm that Salisbury University (MD) graduate assistant coach Mike Fitzpatrick has accepted the full-time assistant position at Susquehanna University (PA). Before joining the Salisbury staff, he worked as an assistant at his alma mater Arcadia University (PA).

  • Staying with DIII schools and GA’s…Heidelberg University (OH) will hire Tim Kaiser as their graduate assistant. He just wrapped up his playing career as a point guard at Waynesburg University (PA) where he led the team in assists this past season.
