Catching-up on a bunch of things…
I have heard that Mississippi State GA Tevin Baskin will be hired as an assistant at D2 St. Michael’s College (VT). Baskin, who played at Quinnipiac when current St. Mike’s head coach Eric Eaton was an assistant there, had been at MSU for the past two seasons. He also spent time as an assistant at JUCO powerhouse Northwest Florida State.
NAIA Dickinson State (ND) has opened as head coach Josh Vaughan will join Saul Phillips staff at D2 Northern State as an assistant. Vaughan had been at DSU since 2017. He was a part of the 2009 NCAA Tournament team at North Dakota State when Phillips was the head coach there.
I have heard that Hoop Group staffer Nick Sires will be added to the Amherst College staff as an assistant coach. Before joining the Hoop Group in 2019, Sires spent three years as an assistant at Montclair State under new Amherst head coach Marlon Sears.
It sounds like Jon Willis will become the new head coach at South Puget Sound CC (WA). Willis has been an assistant at D3 Linfield University (OR) for the past three seasons, and was an assistant at Willamette University (OR) before that. He would replace Andrew Green, who resigned for personal reasons after just one season on the job.
Former NJCAA D1 Utah State University Eastern head coach Vando Becheli has landed on the staff at Florida Coastal Prep. Becheli had spent the past eight seasons at USUE, where he won 120 games.
Speaking of college guys headed to the prep level…long-time college coach Joe Esposito has been named as the head coach at Cesar Chavez HS in Phoenix, AZ. Esposito has worked at UNLV, Memphis, Texas Tech, Minnesota, and Tennessee State. He also spent eight seasons as the head coach at D2 Angelo State (TX).
I’ve been told to keep an eye out for a possible opening in NJCAA D1 Region 9. Apparently a head coach there is involved with an D1 admin gig. More on this one as I hear it.
