Summer recruiting is in full swing, but coaches are still on the move. Here are some things that I’ve heard…

I’ve heard from great sources that Texas Southern assistant Brandon Chambers will be hired as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach at LSU. Chambers had been at TSU for the past two seasons, and was the Director of Basketball Operations for Eric Musselman at Nevada before that.

A shake-up on the staff at Maine…assistant coaches Kevin Reed and Igor Vrzina are both no longer on the Black Bears staff. Vrzina had been at an assistant there since 2018, and Reed (the 4th all-time leading scorer at Maine), had worked there since 2019.

Earlier today, I mentioned that Northern Illinois had hired Triton College head coach Steve Christansen as an assistant (JUCO DIRT). It also sounds like Drew Gladstone and Matt Fleming are in the mix to join the staff at NIU as well. Gladstone was most recently the Team and Recruitment Analyst at Indiana under Archie Miller, and Fleming had worked for Dave Leitao Special Assistant to Head Coach/Assistant Director of Basketball Operation at DePaul.

Some D1 assistants involved in the search at D3 Nichols College. Names that I’ve heard include UIC assistant Brock Erickson, and former UMass assistant Tony Bergeron. Possibly one more D1 assistant in the mix as well. Other name include Brandeis College associate head coach Sean Tabb, and Assumption University Garvin McAlister (a former Nichols assistant). Could be a current D3 head coach involved as well.

Evans Davis has departed the staff at Alcorn State. He had been on the ASU staff since 2018, and served as the head coach at Armstrong before that. Tyler Adams is currently the only assistant on staff.

Hayden Sowers has been hired as an assistant on Steve Green’s staff at NJCAA D1 South Plains College (TX). Sowers had most recently been an assistant at Pearl River CC (MS) and also served as a grad assistant at Ole Miss.

Vincent Robinson has resigned as the associate head coach at D2 Miles College. He had been there for the past two seasons, and had a ton of success as the head coach at The Robinson School (NJ) and NIA Prep (NJ) before that. No word yet on where he will land.

Denis Tobin has been hired as an assistant coach at D3 WPI. He played collegiately at nearby Clark University, and spent the past two years as a GA at Suffolk.
