A bunch things as we near the end of August…

I have heard that D3 Vassar College assistant coach Aaron Toomey is headed to the University of Rochester. Toomey joined the Vassar staff in 2020, after serving as the interim head coach at Amherst College. He had been an assistant at Amherst (his alma mater) for four seasons before being elevated to interim head coach. Toomey was the D3Hoops.com National Player of the Year in 2014.

It sounds like Vassar has already found a replacement for Toomey – I have heard that Mike Romano will be hired to take his spot. Romano had spent last season coaching at Puntam Science Academy (CT), and has previously served as an assistant at Alfred University, Hartwick College, and Bard College.

More dominoes…it sounds like former D2 Concordia College (NY) head coach John Cavaliere will be hired at Putnam Science Academy to take Romano’s place. He had been the head coach at Concordia for three seasons after serving as the associate head coach for the 2017-18 season and as an Assistant Coach four seasons prior to that. Concordia closed it’s doors this summer.

Staying on the prep school level…former URI assistant and new MacDuffie School head coach Tyron Boswell has added Kurt Steiner to his coaching staff as an assistant coach and director of player development. Steiner had most recently been working with the Swarm (AAU) managing teams nationally.

More prep…South Kent (CT) has hired Elijah Gore as the associate head coach of the prep program. Gore had previously been a GA at UConn, served as the video coordinator at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, worked as a front office intern with the Trailblazers, and was an assistant coach at D3 Salisbury University.

D3 Connecticut College has hired Taylor Mulvey as an assistant coach. He had most recently been at St. Thomas More (CT) coaching the varsity team. The STM alum had played collegiately at D2 Barry University, NAIA Ave Maria University, and D3 SUNY New Paltz.

D3 Lesley University (MA) head coach Devon Mayo has been elevated to full-time status. The former part-time head coach will be entering his third season at his alma mater.

I mentioned on Tuesday that Robb Floco was no longer the head coach at SAGU American Indian College (AZ). I have now heard that the college has already found his replacement. Word on the street is that the new coach is coming from a local high school, with the announcement expected any day.

Jeffrey Hodge Jr. has been named as a volunteer assistant at Northeast Mississippi CC. Hodge is a 2018 graduate of the University of North Alabama where he was a 1,000 point scorer. He has been an assistant coach at Shoals Christian HS (AL) for the past 2 years.
