Daily Dirt – 8/16/16

A few things that I’ve heard while hanging out at the beach this week…

  • According to a report by Jon Rothstein, Merchant Marine head coach Steve Hayn will become the special assistant to the head coach at Rutgers. Hayn, a Stony Brook alum, has also been the head coach at Fredonia, Stevens, and Dowling. From the same report…it sounds like former Seton Hall DBO Dennis Kazmir is in line to be Hayn’s replacement at USMMA. More on this as it becomes official.
  • I can confirm that former Green Mountain College (VT) head coach Anthony Leonelli has become the head coach of the ABA’s New England Anchors. Leonelli will also serve as the GM for the expansion franchise which will begin play this fall.
  • DJ Peterson will be named as the assistant coach and director of player development at Crown College (MN). The Minnesota native spent last season as an assistant coach at New Mexico Highlands. He played collegiately at La Salle.
  • John Wood College (IL) head coach Brady Hoyt has added three assistants to his staff – Joel Box, Matt Pugh, and Bob Sheffield. All three are former high school coaches in the area. Pugh and Sheffield have also previously spent time as assistants at JWCC.
  • I have heard that Daniel Williams will assume the role of graduate assistant at North Alabama. He spent last season coaching HS basketball in Alabama, and has also worked as a manager under Anthony Grant at Alabama.
