Daily Dirt- 8/20/15

Busy few days here in the “dirt” world…

  • Maine Maritime assistant Brian Scholly will be named as an assistant at his alma mater Juniata (PA).  The Pennsylvania native had spent one season on David Muchnick’s staff at MMA.  The 2014 Juniata grad was a three-time All-Landmark Conference selection, who scored 1,318 points while setting Juniata records for three-point field goals attempted and made, as well as three-point percentage.  He will replace Nick Hagar who became the head coach at Bethany (WVa).
  • Short list to replace Scholly at Maine Maritime…I have heard that the three contenders are: Matt Howerton (former student manager at IUP, now an assistant at Impact Academy in FL), Joe Brown (just wrapped up his playing career at Arcadia College), and a former Pac-12 player.  Interviews are wrapping up with in the next few days, and the new assistant should be hired shortly.
  • I have heard from a good source that Chad Kills Crow is no longer the head coach at NAIA Haskell Indian Nations University.  He served as an assistant for two seasons before taking over as the head coach back in 2010.  It sounds like he will become the head coach at Pawhuska HS (OK). Back in January, Peter Rugg wrote an awesome article about Kills Crow and the Haskell experience – definitely worth a read:  http://www.sbnation.com/longform/2015/1/14/7532107/haskell-university-basketball-profile
  • Catawba College (NC) Associate head coach Brian Graves has become the head coach at NJCAA Bryant and Stratton University (VA).  Graves became an assistant at his alma mater Catawaba back in 2012 following a professional career which lasted four seasons.
  • Georgetown Video Coordinator Wade Smith has been hired as an assistant at Vermont Academy.  Last season was his first at Georgetown – he was a four year manager at Miami (OH) before that.
  • Dave Meddings has become an assistant at Union College (KY).   He was the associate head coach at Huntington Prep (WVa) last season.

Some DI “dirt” from the past 24 hours incase you missed it…
