Daily Dirt -9/21/15

Some things that I’ve heard to kick off the week…

  • Trouble brewing at a WCC school – more on this one shortly…
  • I have heard that Miami (OH) DBO Sean Mock will become an assistant at DII Northwood (MI). Mock  joined the Redhawks basketball staff as a volunteer coach in 2011-12 and was promoted to DBO for the 2012-13 season.  He is a four-year letterwinner at Miami.
  • Former Cal Riverside assistant Stephen Sauers has taken a job with the Canarias Basketball Academy (Canary Islands).  Prior to joining the UCR staff, Sauers had worked for Bobby Gonzalez and Kevin Willard at Seton Hall.  He also worked for Willard at Iona.
  • I have heard that DII Franklin Pierce (NH) has added Eric MacKinnon as an assistant coach.  He is a recent graduate of Salve Regina University (RI) where he was a four-year letterman and team captain his senior year.
  • Vigen Jilizian has had the interim tag removed, and will now serve as the head coach at Glendale CC (CA).  After spending nine seasons on the staff as an assistant, Jilizian was tabbed as the interim head coach last October after Brian Beauchemin went out on medical leave.  Now that Beauchemin has retired, Jilizian has been officially elevated to the top spot.
  • I can confirm that Matt Moore has been hired as an assistant at SUNY Ulster.  Moore had spent the past five seasons as the head boy’s coach at New Paltz HS (NY).  He is also a former player at SUNY Ulster.
  • I can also confirm that Ross Convertino has accepted a position as an assistant at Lamar CC (CO).  He will replace Jeff Dolan who resigned recently due to personal reasons.  The former manager under Jim Calhoun at UConn, also spent time as a GA for Mark Few at Gonzaga.  He had spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Western Texas College.
