Daily Dirt II – 4/7/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Busy day. Here’s DDII….

Great sources confirm to me that Jeff Rutter will join DJ Stephens new staff at Western Michigan. Rutter had been an assistant at Miami (OH) for the past five seasons, and has also been at Drake, Iowa State, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa and Stetson.

Kyan Brown has departed the staff at North Dakota State. He had been an assistant for the Bison since 2016, and was elevated to associate head coach prior to last season. Will run with his landing spot shortly (hearing it could be Omaha).

In the first edition of today’s DD, I mentioned that Elon would hire a search firm. I’ve now confirmed that they will roll with Parker.

I have heard from a bunch of people today who have told me that Dory Hines is the early leader at D2 Mount Olive. Hines has most recently been an assistant at D2 UNC Pembroke, and has also worked at D2 Lander. He is a former standout at Mount Olive, who was a two-time all-conference player there and was the 2011 Rookie of the Year in the league.

I have heard that interviews at D2 Anderson will wrap up this week. Sounds like there were 6-7 finalists, including at least one current D2 head coach, one current NAIA head coach, and a D1 assistant. More here shortly.
