Daily Dirt III – 4/15/15

Phone blowing up today – Round III of the “Daily Dirt”….

  • I have heard that Lafayette assistant John O’Connor is in the mix with the vacant women’s job at Lafayette.  The former head coach at Holy Family (PA) has been at Lafayette since 2012. He also worked at Lafayette from 2001-04 before landing on Paul Hewitt’s staff at Georgia Tech where he spent six seasons.
  • Word on the street is that Winthrop DBO Tony Rack will accept a similar spot at Northern Kentucky.  He just wrapped up his third year at Winthrop – two as the DBO, and one as the GA.  He is a former player at NKU.
  • Multiple sources have told me that Matthew “Mike” Smith is no longer the head coach at Lawson State (AL).  He just finished his second year at LSCC, and has also been an assistant at Arkansas Pine Bluff, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State, Mississippi Valley State, Centenary, and Southeastern Louisiana University.  An early name mentioned here has been former SEMO assistant Tommy Suitts.  The Alabama native is a coaching veteran who worked under C.M. Newton as an assistant at Alabama, and was also the head coach at Chicago State (1987-1990).
  • Speaking of Alabama JC’s…I have heard that Wallace CC – Selma is searching for a new coach as well.  It sounds like they are down to the final three or four candidates.  I have heard that Shelton State (AL) assistant coach Joe Eatmon is involved here.  He is the former head coach at Alabama Southern CC and was also an assistant at West Alabama.
