The Big Ten Conference issued an institutional fine of $10,000 and a public reprimand of Penn State University men’s basketball interim head coach Jim Ferry for violating its Sportsmanship Policy. The violation is a result Coach Ferry’s postgame actions following the Penn State versus Purdue game on January 17, 2021. More HERE.


Stat of  the night 1: With Pitt’s 79-73 win over Duke last night, Panthers head coach Jeff Capel became the first former Blue Devil player to beat Mike Krzyzewski as a head coach. More on the historic win HERE.


Stat of the night 2: Nate Oats’ Alabama squad broke the school record, and SEC record for 3’s made in a game with 23 in their 105-75 rout of LSU. Alabama started the game by going 6/7 in the first four minutes, and never looked back. More HERE.


Lou Goetz, who served as the head coach at Richmond from 1978-81, died Tuesday in Durham, N.C., of cancer. He was 73. He also served as an assistant at Duke. More HERE.


The NJCAA announced yesterday that they will not host national championships in the sports of DIII men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball during the 2020-21 academic year. With the 2020-21 seasons permitted to begin competition this week, less than 20% of the Division III men’s basketball, women’s basketball, or volleyball programs expressed an intent to participate. After discussions with the National Office, on behalf of the remaining teams, region leaders voted to cancel the national championship events in these sports and conclude postseason competition at the regional level. All NJCAA Division III men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball programs will be permitted to compete at the Division II level for the 2020-21 season if they wish to pursue competition at the district and national levels.
