Providence Head Coach Ed Cooley missed Saturday’s game at DePaul with a non-Covid issue. Assistant Coach Jeff Battle led the Friars to a 57-47 win in his head coaching debut. No word on if Cooley will return for tomorrow’s game at UConn.


Following last week’s meltdown that lead to his ejection, Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard was formally reprimanded by the Big 12. “Coach Beard’s conduct was inconsistent with sportsmanship expectations in the Big 12 Conference,” Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in the announcement. “He is being issued a public reprimand, and put on notice that any future sportsmanship violations may lead to a more severe penalty.” More HERE.


As a tribute to Coach K’s 74th birthday this past Saturday, The Fayetteville Observer took a look at the legendary career he has had at Duke. The article also hints at when he may retire, and mentions that “Krzyzewski has a verbal lifelong contract with Duke University, but his official contract, which dictates how much he’s paid, runs through the 2021 season.” More HERE.

500

*Winona State head coach Todd Eisner picked up the 500th win of his career on Saturday. Eisner’s 500 wins have come at Viterbo (79), Bellevue (225), Benedictine College (16), Midland (96), and Winona State (84).

*Valdosta State head coach Mike Helfer tallied #500 on Friday. Currently, Helfer holds a record of 314-145 at the helm of the Blazers in his 16th year. Prior to Valdosta State, Helfer held the reigns of Southern Polytechnic from ’97-’05, posting an overall record of 186-83.

*Caldwell University head coach Mark Corino earned his 500th victory at Caldwell and his 595th overall in his coaching career on Friday. The first 95 wins of his career came at Bloomfield College (1982-87). He is now in his 32nd season at Caldwell.

St. Thomas University (GA) head coach D.P. Harris won the 350th game of his career on Saturday. Harris has been at STU since 2019 – won 318 games in 16 seasons at St. Vincent (PA) from 2003-19.

*Illinois Wesleyan head coach Ron Rose earned career victory #265 on Friday night, surpassing IWU legend Jack Horenberger, which moved him into second on the school’s all-time wins list.

*Northeastern head coach Bill Coen won his 250th game at Northeastern as the Huskies (9-6, 8-1 CAA) defeated Towson (3-13, 2-9 CAA), 76-67, on Saturday at SECU Arena. Coen matches former legendary coach Jim Calhoun’s Northeastern record of 250 wins set from 1972-86.

*Last week, Arkansas Tech head coach Mark Downey won his 200th NCAA game. In addition to an earlier stint as the head coach at ATU, he has had stops as a head coach at Charleston (WVa), West Alabama, and Northeastern State. Downey also won 49 games in two seasons as the head coach at Independence CC.
