Saint Martin’s Head Men’s Basketball coach Alex Pribble announced assistant coach Dave Granucci had been promoted to the title of associate head coach on Wednesday.
“Coach Granucci is a great combination of teacher and mentor for our players,” said Pribble. “He is excellent on the floor, working on individual player development as well as big picture team strategy. But he’s just as impressive off the floor, where he has a true concern for the well-being of the players of our program, and a desire to help them grow as young men.”
“I want to thank Coach Pribble for this opportunity. I look forward to continuing to work with this great coaching staff and players,” said Granucci.
In his first season with the team, Granucci helped coach Saint Martin’s to a 17-13 record, the most wins since 2008-09. The Saints, reached the GNAC tournament and claimed their first victory in school history, 78-73, over Concordia in the quarterfinals. SMU fell to eventual champion Western Washington in the semifinals in front of the largest crowd all season, over 3,000 fans.
Granucci comes from coaching College of Marin where he was the head coach for three seasons. Prior to his time at College of Marin, he was an assistant coach at City College of San Francisco for two seasons. As a player, Granucci was a standout at San Jose State University and also played professionally in Italy for one season. He also had a tremendous career at Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo.
“We are very fortunate to have three high level coaches in Coach Granucci, Coach Ellis and Coach Hayward,” Pribble said. “I’m very excited about the future of this program, and that is in large part due to the hard work and effort put in by these guys. We have developed a great chemistry as a staff, and I believe having that type of trust is just as important for our coaches as it is for our players.”
“I’d also like to thank Saint Martin’s University, our fans, and community for their support,” Granucci said. “We are excited about the direction we are going and look forward to great things in the future.”
