DePaul Basketball Staff Update

DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced today that Tim Anderson has joined the staff as an assistant coach. In addition to Anderson joining the staff, Billy Garrett has moved into the director of basketball operations position with the Blue Demons.

“Tim’s experience with all levels of basketball will assist and enhance our program,” said Leitao. “His day-to-day skill development along with his experience as a player and coach will benefit our current players and the players we are bringing into the program. His relationships in the grassroots and high school communities both locally and nationally bring an added benefit to an already strong staff. Coach Garrett’s shift into the operations role will allow him to gain administrative experience and also focus on our local and on campus recruiting efforts.”

Anderson is a Chicago native that attended Crane High School and was an assistant coach in the collegiate ranks at UT-Pan American (now UT-Rio Grande Valley) from 2011-13. Prior to his first stint as a collegiate assistant coach, Anderson led Crane to a resurgence with three IHSA appearances in just three years including two Sweet 16 appearances and one Elite 8 appearance and totaled a head coaching record of 63-24.

Known as one of the top basketball trainers in the nation, most recently he worked with the Nike EYBL’s MeanStreets AAU program while also training the nation’s top players at the high school, collegiate and professional levels as founder of Ground Zero Training.

Garrett has been on the DePaul staff since 2009 as an assistant coach and prior to DePaul he was an assistant at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Iowa, Seton Hall and Siena. In his role as director of basketball operations, he will serve in an administrative role for the program while leading the on-campus recruiting efforts.

In addition to Anderson and Garrett, Matt Fleming is now the special assistant to the head coach/assistant director of basketball operations and Baba Diallo is the video coordinator. Fleming has been the program’s video coordinator since 2011 following a two-year stint at VCU while Diallo joined the staff in 2015 as assistant director of basketball operations. Prior to DePaul, Diallo was at the University of Tulsa for two seasons.
