Derrick Price Named Head Basketball Coach at Bluefield State

Bluefield State has announced that the Men’s Basketball Head Coaching position has been filled by Derrick Price. Coach Price is very familiar with the Bluefield area, having coached and played at Bluefield College since 2011.

“I am happy to announce Derrick Price as our new Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach here at Bluefield State,” said Athletic Director John Lewis. “Derrick is a young up and coming coach. He brings basketball knowledge and experience to this position.”

Coach Price’s has gained valuable experience as both a player and coach at Bluefield College. As a player, Derrick was a two-year captain of the program and made 1st Team All-Conference his senior season. His success continued when he returned back to Bluefield College to become the Assistant Coach in 2011.  During his tenure, he helped Bluefield College reach the NCCAA National Tournament three times, including a 2nd place finish in 2013-2014.

When asked about this opportunity, Coach Price said: “I’m beyond excited to be a part of this program here at Bluefield State College. When the opportunity presented itself I ran for the chance to lead the Big Blues. I felt like I was more than ready to become a Head Coach after 5 years at Bluefield College. Coach Morgan has prepared me and showed me how to run a successful program. I’m looking forward to working with a great group of young men and changing the culture of the program for the better!”

Coach Price is originally from Philadelphia, PA but currently resides in Bluefield, WV with his girlfriend and 2 kids, Derrick Price Jr. and Aryanna Price.
