Diaz named Assistant Basketball Coach at D2 Limestone University

Head coach Kyle Perry of the Limestone University men’s basketball team has announced the hiring of Dennis Diaz as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.

“I am very happy to have Dennis join our staff,” said Perry. “I coached against him as a player and feel that he will be a huge addition to our program and especially our players.”

Before arriving at Limestone, Diaz most recently was the Director of Men’s Basketball Operations at UNC Asheville. In this role he conducted all operational duties, including travel, scheduling, recruiting visits, set up and break down of practice, and budget management.

In 2020 Diaz took an opportunity to become the head boy’s high school and post-grad basketball coach at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla. In these roles he was responsible for developing high character athletes with a will to win. Working together as a staff, he took on the duties of recruiting, creating highlight tapes, individual workouts, and completed college placement for each of his players.

Prior to that, Diaz was hired as the Associate Head Men’s basketball coach at Johnson University of Florida, located in Kissimmee, Florida. In addition, he was the Student-Athlete Recruiting Coordinator for the institution, working full-time in the admissions office. While at JU, Diaz helped to turn around the program, leading it to their first-ever winning season, while being named the champions of the South region and receiving a bid to the national tournament for just the second time in program history.

Prior to stepping into the coaching ranks, Diaz was a standout shooting guard at Stetson University and Flagler College. During his time at Flagler, he was a two-year starter and named team captain. Upon graduating college, Diaz pursued a professional playing career, signing with the Orlando Waves, an amateur basketball association located in Central Florida. He played one season with the Waves, leading the team to an impressive 17-3 record.

“I am extremely grateful for Coach Perry and Limestone University for the opportunity to be a part of this outstanding program,” said Diaz. “I believe I am in the right place. I look forward to helping win games and continuing to build this program. I’m excited and ready to get to work. GO SAINTS!”

Diaz graduated from Flagler College with a bachelor’s in sports management in 2015 before furthering his education, earning a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2018.
