Some things that I’ve heard from the DII’s…
• From a great source…it sounds like Winston-Salem State associate head coach James Wilhelmi will be named as the interim head coach for the year there. He joined the WSSU staff in 2011 after stops at Hampton, University of Evansville, Texas Southern, the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Hampton, Northeastern Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He would replace Bobby Collins who became the head coach at Maryland-Eastern Shore earlier this month.
• Two “hot” names right now at West Texas A&M are Eastern Illinois assistant Rand Chappell and USC Aiken head coach Vince Alexander. Chappell just wrapped up his first season at EIU as an assistant, but has a ton of head coaching experience – at the DII and JC levels. Alexander won 33 games this past season at USC Aiken. He has been there since 2005.
• Names are starting to surface surrounding the recently opened Western State Colorado job. Three early names that I’ve heard are: Colorado Mines assistant Brad Schick (played there + went to HS in the town), Fort Lewis Associate Head Coach Bob Pietrack (also from the area), and Black Hills Head Coach Bradd Shafer (another local guy and WSCU grad).
