Yesterday, Aaron Coombs announced his resignation as the head basketball coach at NAIA Oklahoma Pan Handle State University. I can now confirm that he resigned in order to become the next head coach at D2 Georgia Southwestern State University. He will replace Ben Hicks who departed earlier this spring to become the head coach at Chattachoochie Valley CC (AL).
Coombs, in his one season at the helm at OPSU, went 16-14 overall, and the squad earned a conference playoff berth for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The Aggies also went .500 or better for the first time since 2002-03. Before taking over at OPSU, Coombs spent five seasons as an assistant at DII Missouri Western.
The official announcement is expected next week.
