The search to replace Lance Randall at St. Leo (FL) is moving along quickly. Randall was named as the head coach at Lindenwood University (MO) back on May 11th. It sounds like there are at least three in the final group – the names that I’ve heard are:
- Mark Downey – Former assistant Bowling Green. Was part of Chris Jans staff at BGSU last season, and was not retained when Michael Huger took over. Has also been the head coach at West Alabama, Charleston (WVa.), Arkansas Tech, amd Independence CC. Holds a 204-103 record in his ten seasons as a head coach.
- Dale Layer – Former head coach Liberty. Spent the past six seasons as the head coach at Liberty before being released this spring. Also spent seven seasons as the head coach at Colorado State and nine seasons as the head coach at Queens (NC). Is 352-307 in 22 seasons as a head coach.
- Vince Alexander – Head coach USC Aiken. In ten seasons as USC Aiken, he has compiled a 196-113 record. Won 33 games on the way to an NCAA DII Final Four appearance in 2013-14. Was also the head coach at Mansfield (1999-2005).
