Appalachian State men’s basketball head coach Jim Fox has announced that Carlos Dixon has been named director of basketball operations.

Dixon comes to the High Country after serving as an assistant coach for the past two seasons at Queens University in Charlotte. With the Royals, Dixon played a role in skill development, scouting reports, academics and recruiting in four states.

In his two seasons at Queens, the Royals posted a combined 62-8 record. In 2016-17, Queens won the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament title, while advancing to the Sweet 16. In the 2017-18 season, the Royals posted their best start in school history (16-0), reached the No. 1 ranking in the country during the season and made an appearance in the Final Four.

“We are pleased to have Carlos join our coaching staff,” Fox said. “He brings with him a wealth of experience, from his playing days in the ACC at Virginia Tech, his 11-year professional career and the past two years with a team that advanced to the Division II Final Four. He will be an asset to our players every day.”

Dixon was a four-year standout at Virginia Tech, where he was named team captain and team MVP during his junior and senior seasons. He currently sits 22nd in Virginia Tech history with 1,348 points and ranks 10th in program history in steals with 183. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science in housing, interior design and resource management in 2004.

After graduating from Virginia Tech, Dixon played overseas for 11 years in seven different countries. His career has included stops in China, France, South Korea, Argentina, Japan, Bahrain and the Dominican Republic. He earned All-League honors in Japan in 2011 and 2015 and won a league title with Dongbu Promy in South Korea in 2008.

“This is the final piece to our coaching staff puzzle,” Fox added. “The season is quickly approaching and we are excited to get things going.”
