Dollar named Associate Head Basketball Coach at Charlotte

Charlotte Men’s Basketball coach Wes Miller announced Tuesday that former Cincinnati associate head coach and longtime power conference assistant Chad Dollar has been named an associate head coach.

The two worked together at Cincinnati, dating back to the Atlanta native’s hire in May 2021 as an assistant on Miller’s initial Bearcats staff before Dollar was promoted to associate head coach a year later.

Dollar brings a wealth of experience to Charlotte after working at Georgia under Tom Crean as as an assistant coach from 2018–21; at Auburn during the 2016–17 season; and for five seasons at Georgia Tech, including three as an assistant coach and two as an associate head coach.

Chad Dollar is the total package as a coach,” Miller said. “He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience. He connects with young people and has a passion for teaching our game. He’s also a great evaluator and recruiter. Most importantly, we have worked together for five years, and we share the same vision and values for the direction of this program.”

Dollar has a strong track record in developing and recruiting NBA-level talent, highlighted by his work with Anthony Edwards, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. During his time at Georgia, he also coached Nic Claxton (first round) and Toumani Camara (second round). His recruiting impact extends to Auburn, where he helped land Chuma Okeke, the 16th overall pick in 2019, and to Georgia Tech, where he played a key role in the recruitment of Josh Okogie, a first-round pick in 2018.

His coaching résumé also includes roles at Wichita State, Arkansas State, LSU, Murray State, Georgia Southern, Eastern Kentucky, and Western Carolina, along with early roles at Gardner-Webb (graduate, volunteer assistant) and Southern Mississippi (graduate assistant).

Dollar was a three-year letter winner at South Florida from 1990-93 in his playing days, including teams that reached the 1991 NIT and the 1992 NCAA Tournament. He completed his collegiate playing career at Milligan College (Tenn.). Dollar distributed a then-school-record 194 assists during the 1994-95 season while helping lead the Buffaloes to a 24-12 finish and their first-ever appearance in the NAIA Tournament.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Milligan in 1996.
