Dr. Dish Basketball is back at it again with another amazing Skill Builder workout combining basketball drills and conditioning. In this workout we will focus on one of Manu Ginobili’s favorite moves which is the hard dribble step. This move can be used in fast break situations, in the half court, and in any individual move situation.
Repetition is key when trying to add another move to the arsenal and with Dr. Dish shooting machines you can train efficiently and you also track your shooting stats by location. Hard Dribble Step
Manu Ginobili has built an amazing career around the ability to shoot the basketball and getting to the hoop. He has brought several signature moves to the NBA over the course of his career and Ginobili has the ability to score all over the floor. The move we are focusing on is his hard dribble step going to the left and to the right. To do this move properly you have to time out the step and dribble. Make sure to step hard and dribble the basketball with force going towards the rim and this will force the defender to react to the move. If they don’t shift then you can continue to attack the hoop but most defenders that are quick on their feet will shift and when they do you can step back and knock down the shot.
It’s important to practice going both ways with this move so that you can be even more versatile in your skill set. The ability to go both ways with this move will also allow you to execute this move on the fast break and half court setting. Manu Ginobili uses this move often on the fast break right before the 3-pt line to create space and give himself time to get his shot off. Ginobili is an all time great player and skilled enough to shoot the 3 on the fast break and I wouldn’t suggest younger players do this until you have mastered the move and also the trust of your coach. The great thing about this move is that it doesn’t require a ton of athleticism. You just need to focus on technique and form and you can be very proficient scoring using this move.
In between the basketball shooting drills we added in some sprints to help simulate game time fatigue. It’s critical to train game like and at game speed and by doing this, you will set yourself up for success when it’s actually game time. The greatest players in the game can make great plays at the end of the game because they have the skill and stamina to do it. To finish the workout we ended on free throws while tired. The great thing about Skill Builder is the Dish will not allow you time to sit around and rest after you’ve pushed the workout. You will have to go right into shooting free throws while tired and this will make it more game like and beneficial to you.
