East Carolina’s Lebo Receives Vote of Confidence from AD

In an interview with Hoist The ColoursEast Carolina Athletic Director Jeff Compher confirmed his support for head basketball coach Jeff Lebo and the direction that he has the program moving.  Compher told HTC;

“I’ve had a few conversations with Jeff about the program and the direction that he’s taking it, and I feel good about where we’re going,” Compher said of Lebo, whose contract runs through the 2020-21 season. “I feel good about his commitment to be here, his passion to bring a winning program to ECU. I think that as he continues to do some of the things that he’s doing with recruiting and other things, I think we’ll continue to get better as a program.”

“We want him to feel that he can go anywhere to recruit and that there are no ties to him on where to recruit and how to recruit, obviously within the rules,” Compher said. “Having four teams go to the NCAA this postseason says a lot about who this conference is and how we need to climb in that conference competitively.

“If he needs a private plane to take him somewhere quick, he can get our help to send him there. Now they can send out four coaches at one time so we have to fund that appropriately. And when it comes to bringing in recruit and their parents, and when they compare their experiences to other places, we want to make sure they don’t see a drastic difference there.”

In six seasons at ECU, Lebo has amassed a 99-100 record including 12-20 (4-14) this past season.  He has also been the head coach at Tennessee Tech, Chattanooga, and Auburn.  His current contract  contract runs through the 2020-21 season.
