The search committee at Eastern New Mexico University has narrowed the field to three. Included are Andrew Helton, currently an assistant coach at University of South Alabama, Richard Davis, the head coach at St. Joseph’s College (Ind.) and Greg Young, the athletic director and head men’s basketball coach at Jacksonville College in Texas
Andrew Helton has a lot of experience at the DI level but none as a head coach. He has worked at South Alabama (2 seasons),Texas A&M-Corpus Christ i(6 seasons), University of Miami (2 seasons), and St. Francis PA (5 seasons) .
Rich Davis is a young guy with head coaching experience. He just finished his third year as the head coach at St. Joseph’s College (Ind.). He has been at St. Joseph’s since 2004. Prior to St. Joseph’s he was an assistant coach at his alma mater Ashland University for two seasons.
Greg Young is the favorite here. He has a ton of experience and has ties to the university. He was an assistant coach at ENMU from 1991-1994, which included a trip to the sweet sixteen. His resume also includes head coaching experience at Jacksonville College TX, Lamar Community College and Hill College.
A decision would like to be made by May 1st. The job calls for annual salary between $65k to $70k.
