Eberhardt named Director of Basketball Operations at Loyola Marymount

Head Coach Stan Johnson has announced the hiring of Daniel Eberhardt to fill the role of Loyola Marymount University’s Director of Basketball Operations ahead of the 2024-25 season. Eberhardt has experience in college basketball at multiple levels in a variety of roles.

“I am extremely excited about adding Daniel to our staff,” said Johnson. “His passion for the game, combined with his wealth of experience at different levels of basketball, will be a huge asset in moving our program forward. His character and work ethic are beyond reproach. Daniel has a bright future in this business, and I’m glad we get to be a part of that journey.”

Eberhardt joins the Lions with WCC experience, serving as an assistant coach in 2023-24 at Pepperdine University under current LMU Assistant Coach Lorenzo Romar. Prior to his season with the Waves, Eberhardt was an assistant coach with the Cal Poly women’s basketball program.

With head coaching experience at Division II Holy Names in Oakland, Calif., from 2020-22, Eberhardt is the third former head coach that Johnson has hired this offseason, joining Romar and fellow new assistant coach Louis Wilson.

Prior to leading the Hawks, Eberhardt spent six years as an assistant at Cal State East Bay (2014-20) and two at his alma mater, Cal Maritime (2012-14).

At Cal State East Bay, Eberhardt helped lead the men’s program to its first-ever NCAA Division II ranking, and the team set two school records for wins in a season. His recruiting efforts at East Bay led to 10 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) selections, two NCAA DII All-West region members, and a CCAA Newcomer of the Year honoree.

Eberhardt graduated from Maritime in 2012 and then stayed local, guiding the Keelhaulers to two conference championships and helping the team achieve its highest NAIA national ranking in school history.

While playing at Cal Maritime, the 6-1 guard was named a team captain and earned All-Conference honors as well as the NAIA Dr. LeRoy Walker Champion of Character award and president of the Keelhaulers’ chapter of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

“It is an honor to be working with Coach Stan Johnson, the staff, and student-athletes here at Loyola Marymount University,” said Eberhardt. “It has been my dream to be at a place such as LMU, while competing for championships and positively impacting the lives around me.  I am grateful for the opportunity Coach Johnson has given me.  He has positioned this program to do something truly special. My wife & I could not be more excited to be a part of the LMU family and get to work. Go Lions!”

Eberhardt will begin his role with the Lions immediately.
