EMU Assistant Basketball Coach resigns; Accepts job at the Pentagon

Eastern Mennonite University has announced the resignation of Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach RJ Sims. He has accepted a position working in the Pentagon.

Sims, a 2014 graduate of EMU, was in his second season on the Runnin Royals’ coaching staff.

As the lead assistant to second-year Coach Melvin Felix, Sims was the Director of Recruiting, Director of Player Development, and Video Coordinator. Long-time Coach Bill Hale will fill some of Sims’ roles this year, with Felix hiring a replacement after the season.

“In the last year and a half, RJ meant so much to our program,” Felix said. “He was involved at every level of recruiting and he did a fantastic job running our player development program. As much as we are going to miss him, we are extremely excited for his next step in life and wish him all the best!”

Sims was a three-year starter and two-time All-ODAC performer as a player for the Runnin Royals, graduating No. 19 in EMU history with 1,186 career points. He added career totals of 339 rebounds, 209 assists and 150 steals before a successful professional career playing for teams in Lithuania, France, and the United States.
