Duquesne University President Dr. Charles Dougherty announced today that head men’s basketball coach Jim Ferry has been granted a contract extension, terms of which were not disclosed.
Ferry, who is beginning his fourth season at Duquesne, led the team to wins in six of its final 12 games in 2014-15 – including DU’s third Atlantic 10 Championship first round win in 20 years.
“I’d like to thank Dr. Dougherty, the Board of Directors and the administration for the extension,” said Ferry. “My family and I are honored to have the opportunity to continue working at what is truly a great institution. We’ve made significant strides in solidifying the program over the past couple of seasons and look forward to the future. My staff and I are driven to bringing the program all the way back and appreciate the support of the administration.”
The Duquesne roster, which has been completely retooled by Ferry and his staff during his three-year tenure, features eight lettermen — including four returning starters — in 2015-16. Included in that group are a pair of fourth-year seniors in guard Derrick Colter and forward Jeremiah Jones, along with third-year senior, guard Micah Mason, who came to DU after spending his freshman season at Drake. Colter, Jones and Mason started all 31 games last season.
Duquesne will also gain the services of a pair of transfers in sophomore guard Rene Castro (Butler) and freshman guard Mar’Qywell Jackson (UTEP) who sat out last season.
DU tips-off the 2015-16 season, the 100th in school history, on Nov. 13.
