Robb Floco has been named as the head coach at Navajo Technical University – a first year program that will begin play in the USCAA.
Floco comes to NTU with the track record of building programs over the last 20 years. His experience includes coaching at high school, junior college and the 4 year college level. In the last 2 years Floco has lead the Hillcrest Native Prep/Post Grad Team out of Phoenix, AZ (Associated with Nick Weaver @ Hillcrest Prep) and at the 4 year college SAGU American Indian College. Hillcrest Native played a 75 game season that played against elite national teams around the country. While Hillcrest Native was comprised of 11 Native American student athletes from around the country where Floco won 80% of his games.
At SAGU American Indian College he had the same success taking a 4 year program that was unsuccessful at the ACCAC collegiate level and was able to flip the program in one year. The Warriors went undefeated in conference play for the 1st time in school history, 1st time having a winning seasons in conference play which allow Floco to earn West Conference Coach of the Year Award and Runner up West Region Coach of the Year. SAGU went to the ACCAC National tournament and finished 8th overall in the country (2020/2021).
Coach Floco over his tenure has also included a 5A State Championship with Coach Dave Lopez at St. Mary’s High School in 2001, a stint working with his high School coach legendary San Diego Hall Fame Jim Tomey at San Diego State University while working with Steve Fisher, a stop at Grand Canyon University under Scott Mossman who transition the GCU program from NAIA to DII and invented Synergy Scouting Program. As Floco continued along his path has included lead assistant at Scottsdale Community College where they triple their wins from the previous year, working with Dan Nicole’s at South Mountain Community College as the Associate Head Coach. At Williston State College working with Hunter Berg in 2009/2011 (ND) the program soared winning Back to Back Mon Dak League Champs, winning 49 games in 2 years and Floco assist with the development and recruitment of All Americans Blake Nash (Casa Grande, AZ), Marquel Curtis (Minn.) and Luke Martinez (ND).
Working as a head coach at the high school level, Floco was able to turn around two of Arizona’s basketball doormats into contenders. At Desert Ridge High School, Floco took over a program that did not win a game two years before his arrival, and only four games the year before. Floco quickly turned around the program with his up-tempo style and watched his team soar to a 5th ranking in the state. Desert Ridge appeared in the state playoffs for the first time in school history, and won its first ever state playoff game while reaching the 5A Division-II Elite Eight and also posted a school record 17 wins. At Casa Grande High School Floco had 2 winning stints at CGUHS where he had similar results and within the second year at the helm his program set a school record with 21 wins, won the Gila Region Championship and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in 14 years. Floco also picked up Coach of the Year Honors for the Gila Region.
Along the way, Floco has also worked with such players as Channing Frye (Arizona/Phoenix Suns), Nick Lewis (University of San Diego/USA-D League and Los Barrios, Spain), Jason Fontenet (Oregon State/), James Fontenet (New Mexico State), Alex Farrer (Louisiana State) Lawrence Hill (Stanford) and Michael Strittmatter (Princeton). Floco also assisted with the development of Jerryd Bayless (Arizona/ Toronto Raptors), Noe Alonzo (Grand Canyon) and Kal Bay (University of Colorado). Terrance Motley (Sam Houston State), Charles Ward (Univ of Sioux Falls), Blake Nash (University South Florida), Moriba De Freitas (Pepperdine) Shamile Jeffers (Jacksonville University), Angel Villa (SAGU), Darren Jones (SAGU), Richard Serrano (SAGU), Isaiah Williams (SAGU), and Don Morgan (SAGU)
Floco has a Bachelor’s of Business Management and a Masters in Educational, Leadership and Supervision. Working in educational for 18 years as a teacher for 6 year as a CTE Certified teacher, secondary PE teacher, and teaching HPER classes at the post-secondary level as well. Floco has 12 years in leadership experience as a Principal, Vice Principal/Dean, CTE Workforce Director & Dean (at WSC) and currently an Organizational Athletic Director at Edkey Inc. Coach Robb Floco is married to Chrystal Gayle Floco and has a blended family of 7.
