Miles CC Athletic Director Jerry Olson has named Alex Fodness as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach for the Pioneers.
Fodness replaces Chase Tait who resigned from coaching after 18 seasons to become the athletic director following Olson’s retirement.
Fodness comes to Miles after a season as the interim head coach at Division 2 Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Fodness took over head coaching duties in October after the head coach resigned.
Prior to Ferris State, Fodness was an assistant coach at Bemidji State from 2022-2025. He was the head men’s coach at Minnesota State Community & Technical College in 2021-22. Fodness was an assistant at Independence Community College for the 2020-21 season after being the head boys basketball coach at Miller High School in Miller, South Dakota.
Fodness worked in the MonDak Conference as an assistant coach at North Dakota State College of Science from 2016-2019. That came after a season as the graduate assistant at Dakota Wesleyan in 2015-16.
Fodness earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2014 from South Dakota State University and a Master’s degree in Sport and Recreation Studies in 2016 from South Dakota State University as well.
Jerry Olson said about Alex Fodness: “We are excited to get Alex to Miles City and starting as our basketball coach. He has experience in the MonDak Conference, at the junior college level, and experience at the Division 2 level that he can bring new ideas to our school. He will be an excellent addition to campus and the community.”
Fodness about the opportunity: “I would like to thank President Slinger and the search committee for the opportunity to lead the Pioneer Men’s Basketball Program. I believe MCC is a place where we can win on and off the court. I am looking forward to hitting the ground running with our returning student athletes and building this program. With our style of play and the quality of young men that we bring to the program, we will be a product that MCC and the Miles City community are fired up to support and can be proud of. My family and I cannot wait to make Miles City our home. Go Pioneers!”
Alex will be joined in Miles City by his wife Ellie, daughter Campbell (2), and the couple is expecting their 2nd child in June.
