Fogel Named Assistant Basketball Coach at Southern Connecticut

Southern Connecticut State University head men’s basketball coach Scott Burrell has announced the hiring of Mark Fogel as an assistant coach. Fogel joins the Owls after two years as the Director of Basketball Operations at nearby Quinnipiac University and brings experience as a coach across multiple NCAA divisions and junior college levels to the Owls.

Prior to Quinnipiac, he served as an assistant coach at Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. At Odessa, Fogel played a role in recruiting, scouting, player development, academic monitoring as well as scheduling and various administrative duties.

Fogel also previously held the position of coordinator of video and player development at Tulane University. At Tulane, Fogel was responsible for all video operations including film breakdown and scouting report preparation while also assisting with practice and game-plan organization. He was also charged with coordinating on-campus visits and populating Tulane’s prospect database. He also assisted with the organization and coordination of the Green Wave’s basketball camps.

Before his stint at Tulane, Fogel held assistant coaching positions at Columbia State Community College, Mass Bay Community College and Wheelock College. As an undergraduate student, he held the position of student assistant basketball coach under former head coach Bruce Pearl at the University of Tennessee.

Fogel’s father, Karl, coached the Northeastern Men’s Basketball program for eight seasons from 1986-1994, taking over after Jim Calhoun left to accept the position at the University of Connecticut.

Fogel earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UMass-Lowell in 2011.
