Former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins has joined Bonzi Wells’ staff at D2 LeMoyne-Owens College (TN) as a volunteer assistant coach.
A ten-year NBA veteran as a player, Hollins won the 1977 NBA Championship as a player with the Trailblazers, and was an All-Star the next season. After his playing career ended, Hollins entered the coaching world, serving as the head coach of both the Vancouver and Memphis Grizzlies, and later the Brooklyn Nets. Hollins was most recently an assistant on the 2020 Los Angeles Lakers NBA Championship team.
Wells, who played for the Grizzlies from 2003-05 when Hollins was an assistant and interim head coach said; “I am very excited to have Coach Lionel Hollins joining our staff here at LeMoyne-Owen College. Coach Hollins‘ basketball experience and wisdom will play a pivotal part as we build a successful foundation for our men’s basketball program.”
The Magicians open up their season this coming Sunday with a game at the University of Memphis.
