Former Paladin Bostain Named Furman Basketball’s Director Of Player Development

Former Paladin standout Robby Bostain has been hired as Furman basketball’s director of player development, it was announced on Tuesday by first-year head coach Bob Richey.

Bostain, who played in 117 games for the Paladins from the 2003-04 season through the 2006-07 campaign, averaged in double figures in each of his four seasons at Furman and ranks 20th in school history with 1,399 career points. A 2006 second team All-Southern Conference selection by the league’s media and 2007 first team choice by the SoCon coaches, Bostain finished his Furman career ranked sixth in school history in steals (176) and eighth in assists (365).

“Today is a fantastic day to formally welcome Robby back to the Furman men’s basketball program as the director of player development,” said Richey. “We are very fortunate to add such an accomplished former player as the final member of our fantastic coaching staff. Robby brings extensive experience and perspective from his successful professional career, and he exemplifies the character we value in all members of our program. His connection with former players is invaluable as we continue to engage and grow the Furman basketball family. Robby will direct our FURthertheMAN Program which empowers and equips our players to be champions on and off the court, and we could not be more excited to welcome him and his wife Kathleen to our team.”

Bostain began his professional career with Landstede in the Dutch Basketball League in 2007. He joined the GasTerra Flames in 2009 and led his squad to the 2010 Dutch League title and 2011 Dutch NBB Cup championship. The guard garnered All-DBL honors three straight years before joining Israeli side Maccabi Ashdod in 2012. He finished his professional career playing for Ironi Nes Ziona B.C. in Israel from 2013-15.

It is great to be back on campus and to be a part of the Furman family.”

Bostain, who most recently worked with Blue Collar Basketball in Atlanta, Ga., and worked camps around the country with Point Guard College (PGC) Basketball, married his wife Kathleen in September of 2016.
