The Detroit Pistons have hired former University of San Francisco head coach Rex Walters as an assistant coach.
Walters spent last season as coach of the Grand Rapids Drive (G-League). Prior to that, he spent eight seasons as the head coach at USF where he compiled a 127-127 record including two 20-win seasons and two postseason appearances.
The former Kansas guard was also the coach at Florida Atlantic from 2006-08 (31-33).
Walters was the 16th pick in the 1993 NBA draft, and played in the league until 2000 with the Nets, 76ers, and Heat.
