Garden City CC names Strohm Assistant Basketball Coach

Garden City Community College men’s basketball coach Patrick Nee has finalized his coaching staff for the 2019-2020 season.

Nee has named former Kansas State graduate assistant Ryan Strohm as his new assistant coach.

“Ryan is a great addition to our basketball program,” Nee said. “Having been a GA at Kansas State gives him a great background to grow at the Junior College level.”

Strohm spent the past two years in Manhattan, helping the Wildcats to a 25-win season in 2019 and their first Big 12 title. He was in charge of breaking down game film and scouting.

Before Kansas State, Strohm spent a year as an assistant coach at Maplewood-Richmond Heights High School in St. Louis, MO. At the same time, he was a skills trainer at Pure Sweat Basketball, which trains players of all levels to improve their skills.

“I’m excited for what Ryan brings to the program, the college, and the community,” Nee added.

Strohm is a native of St. Louis. He played college baseball, first at Westminster College in Fulton, MO from 2012-2014 before finishing his career at Greenville College in Greenville, Ill. From 2014-2016. He was a left-handed pitcher, helping Greenville capture their first-ever Division III Central Regional championship in 2015. For his career, Strohm posted a 10-7 record in 24 appearances, posting a 3.91 earned run average with 102 strikeouts and three complete games.

Strohm earned his Bachelor’s Degree in math education from Greenville College in 2016 and his Master’s in academic advising from Kansas State in 2019.
