Garvin Rejoins Maverick Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

Minnesota State men’s basketball coach Matt Margenthaler has announced that Pat Garvin will rejoin the men’s basketball coaching staff as an interim assistant coach.

“I am excited to add Pat Garvin to our coaching staff,” Margenthaler said. “He brings a great basketball mind and a willingness to grind in the office. I look forward to working side by side with Pat this year.”

A native of Jackson, Minn., Garvin returns to Minnesota State after serving two seasons as an assistant coach with the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks. During his time at Benedictine, Garvin worked in several different areas including recruiting, player development, fund raising, and game and practice preparation. Last season, Garvin helped his team to 16-12 record, including six wins in the team’s final nine games.

Prior to joining the Redhawks, Garvin spent one season at Minnesota State as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2014-15 season. Garvin worked with post players during his season with the Mavericks and he also broke down film and assisted with recruiting, scouting, equipment and game preparation. The Mavericks went 24-8 during the 2015-16 season as they advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Before joining the Mavericks in 2014, Garvin spent one season as an assistant coach at Bethany Lutheran College. As a member of the Viking coaching staff, Garvin assisted with game and practice preparation, player development and recruiting.

In 2014, Garvin received his bachelor’s degree in social studies at BLC. In 2016 he completed his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration.
