Southern Virginia University Vice President of Athletics Jason Lamb today named Greg Winslow the seventh head men’s basketball coach in the University’s history. Winslow, who has over two decades of coaching experience, served as the assistant men’s basketball coach under Tony Caputo for two of the past three seasons.

“We are fortunate to have an experienced coach who has been involved in the program as much as Coach Winslow has to take our program forward,” Lamb said. “He is familiar with who we are as a University and the caliber of student-athletes we have here.”

Serving as Caputo’s assistant coach, Winslow helped lead the men’s basketball program to its first Capital Athletic Conference tournament appearance in 2015-16 and eight home wins this past season—the most since the 2012-13 season.

Since joining Caputo’s staff in 2015, Winslow has also served in several capacities within the Knights athletics department including director of intramurals and director of promotions. Before coming to Southern Virginia, Winslow accumulated more than two decades of coaching experience in California at the community college and high school levels.

“I’m very thankful to President Wilcox and Jason Lamb for giving me this opportunity,” Winslow said. “Saying I am excited is an understatement. We will build on the foundation Coach Caputo has created and continue to increase our pace of play. We will be fun to watch!”

Winslow earned his bachelor’s degree from Fresno State University and master’s from California State University, Bakersfield. He and his wife of 33 years, Janene, have four children, including Southern Virginia alumnus Rex Winslow and current student-athlete Kellen Winslow.
