Bellarmine University men’s basketball adds Jo Griffin to the staff as assistant coach/director of basketball performance, Athletic Director Scott Wiegandt and Head Coach Doug Davenport announced today.
“We are excited to support Jo in this transition to a new role. Jo is a tremendous young professional with his best in front of him. The sky is the limit for him,” Wiegandt said.
Griffin has been a valued member of the Bellarmine athletics staff as the head sports performance coach for the past four years. Now, he will transition to a full-time role with the men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach and the team’s director of basketball performance.
“Jo has been an invaluable member of our program for the past four years. He lives and breathes our culture every single day,” Davenport said. “In this role, he will have a greater opportunity to help our players reach their potential, we’re thrilled to have Jo on our staff.
In his previous role, Griffin oversaw the sports performance department while working directly with the men’s basketball, men’s soccer and wrestling teams.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have my full focus on the physical development of Bellarmine men’s basketball, while also being more involved outside of the weight room than I have been in the past,” Griffin said. “I am extremely grateful that Coach Davenport and staff trust me enough to take on this unique role, and it is something that I will not take for granted.”
Prior to joining Bellarmine, Griffin spent the summer of 2021 as a graduate assistant strength coach for Indiana University men’s basketball, and during the 2021-22 academic year, he served as a graduate assistant for the University of Evansville men’s basketball team and sports performance staff.
As an undergraduate, Griffin played basketball for Kentucky Wesleyan College from 2019-2021 and was named a team captain in both years. He began his collegiate basketball career as a walk-on for the University of Louisville men’s basketball team, playing under head coaches Rick Pitino, David Padgett and Chris Mack from 2017-2019.
A Crestwood, KY native, Griffin is a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and holds a master’s in leadership innovation from the University of Evansville. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association, a certified pain-free performance specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, and is a certified USA Weightlifting level 1 coach.
