Fresno Pacific head men’s basketball coach Tim Kisner has announced the addition of C.J. Haydock to his coaching staff. Haydock comes to FPU after coaching locally at Immanuel High School where he led the Eagles to back-to-back Valley championships and a ranking as high as #1 in the state this past season.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled about adding C.J. to our staff,” said Kisner. “His experience building Immanuel into an elite program, knowing the high school landscape along with being a Fresno Pacific alum made him the right fit. This was a difficult decision with many high-level coaches interested in the job, but at the end of the day C.J.’s passion to help grow this program the right way really stood out. We’re excited to have him on board and looking forward to working together to get better each day.”
Haydock, the 2015 Fresno Bee High School Coach of the Year, became the head coach at Immanuel in 2011, inheriting a program that had gone 4-23 the previous year. In four seasons with the Eagles he posted an overall record of 70-47, including a 30-3 mark last season, going undefeated against Central Section opponents across all divisions and reaching the Division IV state quarterfinals.
“It is a great privilege to be joining the men’s basketball staff at Fresno Pacific University,” said Haydock. “Coaching at the NCAA level has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am deeply appreciative to Coach Kisner and director of athletics Leslie Schuemann for the opportunity to pursue that dream. It is a substantial honor to be joining the Sunbird family, and I am confident that we can build a program that our community can participate in and be proud of. I look forward to the years ahead, working to align our program to best represent the University, and working diligently to challenge our student-athletes to be the best young men they can be.”
Under Haydock, the Immanuel basketball program became known not only for its success on the court but also for its team culture and tremendous community impact within the city of Reedley. The Eagles routinely played in front of sell-out crowds and received state-wide media coverage for the past two seasons. Haydock is committed to the holistic growth of each student-athlete, not only athletically but also academically, spiritually and in serving their community as well, values that are shared by both FPU and IHS.
Haydock’s coaching career began as an assistant at his alma mater, Fresno Christian High School. He was the head coach at Liberty High School in Madera Ranchos from 2008-2010 before joining the coaching staff at Clovis North High School where he was a part of his first Valley championship. He graduated from FPU in 2009 with a degree in organizational leadership and also holds a master’s in education from National University.
Haydock will join Kisner in looking to turn around a program that went 9-19 last season and posted back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 2004-05.
The FPU men’s basketball program has a rich tradition, most recently posting a string of five seasons with 19 wins or more from 2007-2013. The program’s lengthy list of successful alumni includes longtime NBA coach Ron Adams, currently with the Golden State Warriors.
Kisner became the head coach on April 28 and has moved quickly to assemble his staff. Haydock will be the lead assistant coach, with the rest of the coaching staff taking shape in the coming weeks.
