Hernandez named Men’s Basketball General Manager at Seton Hall

Seton Hall men’s basketball has announced the hiring of Nelson Hernandez as the program’s general manager. Hernandez is a Brooklyn native who brings over a decade and a half of experience to the program.

“We are thrilled to welcome Nelson Hernandez to Seton Hall,” said Director of Athletics Bryan Felt. “Nelson brings a forward-thinking approach, with deep relationships across the basketball landscape.  As the role of General Manager continues to evolve in college athletics, we’re confident Nelson will be instrumental in supporting our student athletes and helping position our men’s basketball program for continued success.”

Hernandez most recently spent time as the general manager for Virginia Tech men’s basketball, where the Hokies went 19-13 overall and 8-10 in ACC play. Prior to his stop in Blacksburg, Hernandez spent one season as the director of player personnel/recruiting for West Virginia.

Nelson is going to bring a lot to the table for us,” said Head Coach Shaheen Holloway. “I’m excited to welcome him into our family as we continue to put our program in the best position possible for success.”

Hernandez’s prior experience also includes serving as the director of player development at Oklahoma State (2023-24), assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Fresno State (2022-23), director of basketball operations at LSU (2017-22) and VCU (2016-17), director of player development at Wright State (2015-16) and video coordinator at Clemson (2014-15) and Utah State (2009-14).

Hernandez is a two-time graduate of Utah State, earning his bachelor’s degree in 2012 before earning his master’s in education/sports administration in 2018.
