Holy Cross Head Coach Carmody to miss select games for remainder of season

Holy Cross Interim Director of Athletics Brendan Sullivan has announced that head men’s basketball coach Bill Carmody will be absent from the sideline at select road contests for the remainder of the season.

Carmody – whose wife, Barbara, was diagnosed with cancer one year ago – will not travel to overnight road contests so that he can be with Barbara as she undergoes treatment.

The situation has no timeline, and Carmody will be at all practices and home games.

“The Holy Cross community means a lot to Barbara and me, and we are grateful for the support and understanding of Fr. Boroughs and interim Athletics Director Sullivan,” said Carmody. “I am confident that my coaching staff can lead our student-athletes in my absence.”

“Bill has the full support of Fr. Boroughs, me and the entire College community as he makes his family the priority in this challenging time,” said Sullivan. “Our thoughts continue to be with Barbara and Bill, and we will do whatever is necessary to accommodate their needs and protect their privacy.”

Carmody will be absent for the team’s upcoming road trip to Washington, D.C. The Crusaders take on American Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

It’s been a busy day for Interim AD Sullivan at Holy Cross. He announced earlier today the Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bill Gibbons has been placed on leave for the remained of the season. More on that one HERE.
