Rock Valley College head coach Craig Doty has been selected as the winner of the 2015-16 HoopDirt.com Junior College National Coach of the Year presented by The Hoop Group. Doty was one of 15 Junior College head coaches who were eligible for the award after receiving HoopDirt.com/Hoop Group Coach of the Week honors for week 1 of the college basketball season.
This past season, Doty led the Golden Eagles to a 33-3 record and captured the NJCAA DIII National Championship. Along the way Rock Valley defeated NJCAA DI power programs Vincennes (#6 at the time) and Indian Hills (#7 at the time), both on the road. RVC also beat defending NJCAA DII National Runner-up John Wood Community College (#11 at the time) while starting the season off with a 19-0 record, the best start in school history. Doty’s squad also broke the school record for wins in a season (for the 3rd straight season), and they have been ranked #1 in the NJCAA DIII national poll since October 27th, 2014, spanning over 500 days and 24 national polls.
Rock Valley averaged 87.4 points per game this season while holding their opponents to just 67.7. The sharp shooting Golden Eagles were also in the top ten nationally in field goal percentage (48.5), 3-pointers made per game (10.6), 3-point percentage (39.3), and free throw percentage (74.3).
Since taking over the program back in 2012, Doty has led Rock Valley College to a 113-28 record which includes a 94-12 mark over the past three seasons, two national championships (2016, 2014) and one national runner-up (2015).
