LSU-ALEXANDRIA HEAD COACH LARRY CORDARO TABBED HOOPDIRT.COM NAIA NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY THE HOOP GROUP

LSU-Alexandria head coach Larry Cordaro has been selected as the winner of the 2015-16 HoopDirt.com NAIA National Coach of the Year presented by The Hoop Group. Cordaro was one of 16 NAIA coaches eligible for the award after receiving HoopDirt.com/Hoop Group Coach of the Week honors for week 1 of the college basketball season.
This past season, Cordaro led the Generals to a 29-4 record and a Red River Conference regular season championship (17-1). Along the way, LSU-A had a 21-game winning streak, and held the NAIA DI #1 ranking for five straight weeks, and compiled a perfect 14-0 home record. The Generals were also ranked in the top ten for the entire season, and advanced to the second round of the NAIA national tournament. They finished the season ranked #3 in the NAIA poll.
Statistically, Cordaro’s squad out scored their opponents by nearly 13 points per game, while shooting a blistering 49% from the field over their 33 games. The Generals held the opposition to just 39% shooting and out rebounded them by just over 6 caroms per game.
This was Cordaro’s second season at the helm at LSU-A. In his inaugural season, he led the Generals to a 23-4 record in route to a winning both the conference regular season and tournament championship. Cordaro’s coaching was rewarded with several accolades, led by being named Don Meyer NAIA National Coach of the Year. He also was the Red River Conference Coach of the Year and Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches small college coach of the year.
