Utah Valley men’s basketball coach Mark Madsen has retained Bobby Horodyski as the director of basketball operations on his staff, he announced on Monday. Horodyski will enter his fifth season as the director of operations for the Wolverines in 2019-20.
“To be able to retain Bobby Horodyski is a huge win for our players and the University,” said Madsen. “Bobby can do it all. His organizational skills and work ethic are second to none. He is a great communicator with everyone around him. During the recent coaching transition, Bobby tirelessly stepped in as a temporary replacement of previous coaches and excelled in recruiting activities and with his on court work with Utah Valley players. Bobby is one of the true up and comers in the world of basketball. I feel very fortunate that he chose to stay.”
Horodyski has helped the Wolverines to four record-breaking seasons during his time at UVU. The team most recently won a school-record 25 games during the 2018-19 season and made a third straight appearance at the College Basketball Invitational. With the 25 wins last season, UVU secured back-to-back 20-plus win seasons for the first time in school history. The team also picked up a win over CSUN in the first round of the CBI, marking the third-straight season that the Wolverines have won a game in a national postseason tournament.
Utah Valley won 22 straight games at the UCCU Center from 2017-2019—the second-longest active home winning streak in the nation at the time. UVU holds an impressive 30-2 record at home over the last two seasons. Horodyski helped UVU make the nation’s biggest three-year jump in the KenPom.com rankings, taking the team from No. 343 during the 2015-16 season to No. 91 at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Utah Valley has compiled a 77-56 record during Horodyski’s four seasons with the team.
Horodyski assists the Utah Valley basketball team in a variety of aspects, including academic oversight, travel, equipment and overseeing the managers and graduate assistants. Horodyski is in charge of film exchange, while handling other day-to-day activities within the basketball office and the university. He also directs the Wolverines’ multiple summer camps.
Horodyski joined the Utah Valley staff in 2015 after spending two years as a graduate assistant coach at Wyoming. He helped the Cowboys to a Mountain West Conference title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in his final season with Wyoming as the team went 25-10.
The Gainsville, Florida native played collegiately at Central Florida from 2011-13 where he played in 10 games and made one start, helping the Knights to a 22-11 record and a trip to the NIT his junior season. Prior to UCF, Horodyski played at Marshal during the 2009-10 season.
Horodyski graduated from UCF in May 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He also earned a master’s degree in communication at Wyoming. Horodyski is married to Dr. Laura Ann Horodyski.
